RHHA Receives ROSS Funding
THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT AWARDS $239,250 IN RESIDENT OPPORTUNITIES AND SELF SUFFICIENCY (ROSS) GRANT FUNDING TO THE ROCK HILL HOUSING AUTHORITY
On February 27, 2020, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the Rock Hill Housing Authority (RHHA) with $239,250 in Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency (ROSS) grant funds. The funding will be used to hire and retain a service coordinator. The service coordinator will help Rock Hill Housing Authority (RHHA) public housing residents connect with employment and training, financial literacy services, educational opportunities, as well as health and wellness programs. "Connecting families with the resources they need to invest in themselves gives them the opportunity to become self-sufficient," said HUD Secretary Ben Carson. "HUD is proud to give our local partners the resources they need to help their residents reach the next level."
"Our community has an array of resources that are available. Many of our residents simply are unaware of the services available nor do they know how to access the services. The advent of a service coordinator will assist our residents greatly in their goal of becoming self-sufficient." said Della Robinson, Housing Operations Manager of the Rock Hill Housing Authority.
The purpose of RHHA's ROSS-SC program is to support local, innovative strategies that link public housing assistance with public and private resources to allow participating families to increase earned income, reduce or eliminate the need for governmental dependency and make progress towards achieving economic independence and housing self-sufficiency.
The Rock Hill Housing Authority established, April 12, 1965, is a local Public Housing Agency (PHA) whose mission is to provide safe, decent and sanitary housing conditions for very low-income families and to manage resources efficiently. The Rock Hill Housing Authority currently owns and operates 369 affordable public housing apartments, 56 apartments for elderly and disabled persons, and administers 500 Housing Choice Vouchers and 24 Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Vouchers (HUD-VASH) to local veterans facing chronic homelessness in York County.
