Radon is a naturally occurring, cancer-causing, radioactive gas that you cannot see, smell, or taste.
Radon comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water and finds its way into homes through cracks and holes in the foundation, construction joints, and plumbing fixtures. Basements and first floors typically have the highest radon levels because of their closeness to the ground. However, any home can have a radon problem.
Homes in York County have an elevated risk of radon gas exposure based on test results from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. It is important to understand the health risks associated with radon gas exposure. To learn more about radon gas, please visit:

Take action to test your home and protect your health.
Through a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Radon Testing and Mitigation Demonstration Grant Program, Rock Hill Housing Authority is working to test 337 ground-floor units for the presence of elevated radon levels and perform mitigation efforts where indicated. Radon testing is FREE for residents and may help save a life!
